Zones: 5 to 8
Mature Height: 35 feet
Mature Spread: 20 to 30 feet
The most familiar of the dogwoods; a small tree with low branches that tend to form horizontal tiers. It has very striking pink flower-like bracts that open in April and May before leaves emerge; shiny red fruit that ripens in late September and October. Older bark has an alligator hide appearance that is attractive in the winter landscape.
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Pink Flowering Dogwood has a moderate growth rate. It grows up to 35 feet in height and 20 to 30 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 5 to 8. Part shade in moist, acid, well-drained soil.
